Application Process

Applicants for trading positions will be contacted for an initial phone screen which will emphasize mathematics, probability, and problem-solving. Applicants for technology positions should expect a phone screen, and will be asked for a code sample in a language of their choice.
Internship applications are accepted on a rolling basis until all positions are filled. To apply to Old Mission Capital’s summer internship program, you must be authorized to work in the United States. Sponsorship, such as H1B and other equivalent programs, is not provided. Please clearly indicate your work authorization status when submitting your cover letter and resume.

Technology Positions
Software Engineers
Software engineers develop the technology infrastructure, applications, and algorithms Old Mission uses to execute positive expectancy trades. Our automated trading platform was written in C++ on Linux, so it is vital that our engineers deeply understand how to write reliable, high performance software in this environment. Old Mission is currently accepting applications for Software Engineers. Successful candidates will generally possess:
- An undergraduate or advanced degree in Computer Science
- 5 or more years writing software in the Unix/Linux programming environment
- Deep knowledge of C++, including advanced language features
- Experience with Boost and STL
Software Support Engineer
A Software Support Engineer is needed to assist with daily management of the firm’s proprietary systems. Working side by side with our developers, system administrators and traders, this role is an integral part of our operations. Responsibilities include maintenance, configuration and organization of our trading tools and environment. Candidates who possess a strong affinity for problem solving and have the following skills are encouraged to apply:
- C++

QA Testers
QA testers are needed to develop and specify standards, procedures and methods to determine product quality and/or release readiness. Our automated trading platform is constantly undergoing enhancements and candidates with the following skills are encouraged to apply:
- Solid scripting language skills (linux shell, bash scripting and python) desired
- Strong spoken and written English skills are necessary as communication is key amongst the different teams
- 3 - 5 years experience in QA/Software testing preferred
Internship Program
Interns
Interns at Old Mission Capital work in one of our two offices. Our Chicago office is located in the city’s River North neighborhood, a vibrant, dynamic location known for its top dining and entertainment sites. Our New York City office is located in the heart of the Financial District, an intellectual and cultural hub. Interns can enjoy either one of these two exciting cities while pursuing their career ambitions with Old Mission Capital.
The interview process consists of multiple phone interviews conducted by our firm traders. After two or three phone interviews, as well as a take-home programming problem, you will be invited for a final interview on-site with one of the firm’s managing partners.
Interns are closely mentored by the firm’s senior traders and developers. Responsibilities include quantitative research, exploring new trading strategies, and developing related software. Interns participate in the firm’s education program, getting a chance to learn about all aspects of trading and financial markets both formally (in classes) and on-the-job. Our New York and Chicago offices collaborate through virtual classes, which are taught by the traders and researchers.
Successful candidates will have:
- Minimum GPA of 3.5 (or equivalent)
- Strong quantitative skills and familiarity with probability and statistics
- Knowledge of a programming language such as C++, VBA, Python, or R. Familiarity with the UNIX operating system is a significant advantage
- The ability to work and solve problems as part of a team, often in a high-pressure environment
- Great communication skills, both written and verbal
- A strong work ethic, motivated by a desire for knowledge and understanding
At this time, Old Mission Capital is currently interviewing intern candidates who intend to graduate (from undergraduate, masters, or PhD programs) in December 2015 or May 2016. No prior experience in finance is necessary.
