Internship Program

Old Mission Capital will begin accepting applications for the 2016 Summer internship program in the Fall of 2015. During that time, candidates who intend to graduate (from undergraduate, masters, or PhD programs) in December 2016 or May 2017 will be encouraged to apply. No prior experience in finance is necessary.

Interns at Old Mission Capital work in one of our two offices. Our Chicago office is located in the city’s River North neighborhood, a vibrant, dynamic location known for its top dining and entertainment sites. Our New York City office is located in the heart of the Financial District, an intellectual and cultural hub. Interns can enjoy either one of these two exciting cities while pursuing their career ambitions with Old Mission Capital.

The interview process consists of multiple phone interviews conducted by our firm traders. After two or three phone interviews, as well as a take-home programming problem, you will be invited for a final interview on-site with one of the firm’s managing partners.

Interns are closely mentored by the firm’s senior traders and developers. Responsibilities include quantitative research, exploring new trading strategies, and developing related software. Interns participate in the firm’s education program, getting a chance to learn about all aspects of trading and financial markets both formally (in classes) and on-the-job. Our New York and Chicago offices collaborate through virtual classes, which are taught by the traders and researchers.

Successful candidates will have:

  • Minimum GPA of 3.5 (or equivalent)
  • Strong quantitative skills and familiarity with probability and statistics
  • Knowledge of a programming language such as C++, VBA, Python, or R. Familiarity with the UNIX operating system is a significant advantage
  • The ability to work and solve problems as part of a team, often in a high-pressure environment
  • Great communication skills, both written and verbal
  • A strong work ethic, motivated by a desire for knowledge and understanding
